Celebrating Dave Day @ the Pottsville Library

The Pottsville Free Public Library welcomes everyone to join us in celebrating Dave Day on May 28th and 29th. Dave Naydock was a mural and studio artist who was born in Pottsville.  His murals can be seen at many locations around town, and his studio work graces walls around the world including the Pottsville Library. He would paint on anything he could find, whether it was a window, a shutter, a room divider, a drum head, a 2-man saw, or a piece of drywall.

After he passed away in 2013, his friends and family began the “Dave Day” celebration to honor his memory and legacy in our community, observed on the date of his birthday. The Pottsville Library continues this tradition with two events.

On Thursday, May 28th, the Library will host Family Paint Night for Dave Day. All budding artists, young and old, are invited to paint a canvas in honor of Dave Naydock, which will be displayed during the Dave Day celebration at the Pottsville Library on Friday, May 29th. Paint, canvas, brushes and Dave’s favorite chocolate chip cookies will be provided to each artist. Due to limited space, registration is required. Email potchild@pottsvillelibrary.org or call the Library at 570-622-8880 to register. Family Paint Night is a free event and painting will start at 5:30PM.

On Friday, May 29th, join us at 11AM for the annual celebration of the life and artistic works of Dave Naydock. There will be a window for everyone to paint on and leave an artistic expression in honor of Dave, the display of works from budding artists from the Family Paint Night, a proclamation from the Mayor of Pottsville, and Dave’s favorite chocolate chip cookies & other light refreshments. Note that Dave Day Windows from previous years are on display in the basement of the Pottsville Library and may be viewed during the monthly Friends of the Library Used Book Sales.
