Accessible Media for Pennsylvania Readers

Did you know that there is a Pennsylvania library specifically for residents who need alternative media to enjoy reading? The Library of Accessible Media for Pennsylvanians, also known as LAMP, provides free materials to Pennsylvania residents including large print books, braille books, audio books and magazines, audio-described movies, and much more. They can even provide the devices needed to use these materials.

The Pottsville Library staff can help you apply for the program. Reasons for applying include blindness, visual impairment, physical disability, deaf-blindness, or reading disability such as dyslexia. You can request specific types of media and what kinds of books you most enjoy reading, such as thrillers, best sellers, mysteries, poetry, etc., and you can request not to receive books that have strong language, violence, or explicit descriptions of sex. The materials are mailed directly to your home. Returning them through the mail is free! Your application can also include registering to download braille and audio books from the national BARD collection.

For more information, visit MyLAMP.org, or stop by the Pottsville Library and ask to speak with one of the librarians about the service.
