PART-TIME REFERENCE LIBRARIAN. Pottsville (Pa.) Free Public Library seeks public service-oriented professional to assist in providing reference/information services for community residents and the Pottsville Library District (serving 16 public libraries).  Position is 20 hours per week, including some evening and Saturday hours.  RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:  general and interlibrary reference service and assistance with all reference department activities, including government documents, genealogy and user assistance with internet access and library catalog.  QUALIFICATIONS:  ALA/MLS or Pennsylvania public library professional certification, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and knowledge of computers, the internet, and electronic and traditional reference resources.  DEADLINE:  Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.  To apply, send letter of application, resume and references to Nancy J. Position Title:  Reference Librarian
 

General Statement:
Provides reference/information services to the libraries in the District and to the general public and assists in the coordination of activities in the Reference Department.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively and pleasantly with people and interpret their information needs.

Familiarity with the established policies, practices and procedures of the library.

Training:
Master’s degree in Library Science.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for the provision of reference and information services.

Responsible to the Head Reference Librarian.

Regular Duties:
Answers reference and information questions from the public and from the libraries in the District.

Answer reference inquiries received in person, by telephone, in the mail and by electronic mail.

Shares evening and Saturday coverage of the Reference area with other department personnel and is in charge of the library during these time periods.

Participates in all Reference Department procedures and activities and relays any departmental needs, problems, and suggestions for improvement to the department head.

Oversees selection, acquisition, processing and distribution of state and federal documents.

Assists with the materials selection for the Reference Department, vertical file and general adult collection. 

Works with the department head on tours or library instruction for groups as needed.

Works with the department head to update library’s web page(s).

Records statistics of reference use, and maintains all necessary records and files pertaining to Reference Department functions.

Prepares special bibliographies and projects as required.

Serves in an advisory capacity to the Director.

Additional duties as required.
