Library Holiday Closings

The Library will close for Memorial Day on Monday, May 30th.

The Library will be closed on Monday, July 4th for Independence Day.


 

Saturdays with Sherlock Holmes

The Pottsville Free Public Library and Lodge 341, Vermissa, a traditional Sherlockian literary society, will present a program to read and discuss the Sherlock Holmes stories.  

The first meeting will be held on Saturday, March 5th from 1 to 4 PM at the Library, and continue on Saturday April 16th and Saturday, May 21st.

Although the program is free, space is limited so registration is necessary.  For more information or secure your seat, email Julianne221b@gmail.com.


Used Book Sales

Used book sales are held on the first Monday of each month from 12 noon to 2 PM, weather permitting.  The next sale dates are Monday, June 6th from 12 noon to 2 PM, Tuesday, July 11th from 12 noon until 2 PM, and Monday, August 1st from 12 noon to 2 pm.

 


Pottsville Library Online Catalog

Our new computerized circulation system is in full swing. 

From home, you can log into your account to see what items you have checked out, the due dates of your items, what you have on reserve, and more.  You can renew or reserve items online through your account page.  All you need is the barcode number from your library card and your pin number. (Your pin number is the last 4 digits of the phone number you gave us when you registered.  You can change it after you have logged in.)  

You can search the catalog to see if the library has the material you want and you can even place a hold on it from home.

By giving the library your email address, our system will send you reminders of when your books are due.  Notifications for books you have requested can be sent to you by email or text is you prefer.

Free Wi-Fi available!

Thanks to a gift from the Friends of the Pottsville Free Public Library, patrons can now use their wireless devices at the Pottsville Library.  Anyone who wishes to access the Wi-Fi connection just needs to log in as "guest" and agree to abide by the Library's Internet Policy.    


Costas Candy Sale

The Friends of the Library are selling Costas candy as a fundraiser for the Library.  Club Sandwich bars, Jackpot bars and new Triple Chocolate Peanut Butter Club Sandwiches are available at the front desk of of the Library for $1.00 each, or you can buy a box of 24 for $20.00.


Pottsville Open Writers

Calling all budding writers!  Join POW on the second Saturday of the month from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Pottsville Library.  This group gets together monthly to discuss their work and to share new ideas.  Writers of all ages and interests are welcome to join.  They are currently selling copies of their publication, Disconnected Scribblings for $10.  Proceeds benefit the Pottsville Library and copies are available at the Library.

The Mission of the Friends of the Pottsville Free Public Library is to build an organization that will seek to guarantee quality Library services for the Pottsville area community and the continual support of the Pottsville Free Public Library.

The purpose of the Friends is to maintain an association interested in the Pottsville Free Public Library, its policies, procedures and programs; to promote the uses and enjoyment of the Library; to focus positive public attention on the Library and its services; to build and maintain a source of supplemental funding for the Library and its programs; and to take an active part in supporting the programs and staff of the Library.

The Pottsville Page Turners  

The Pottsville Page Turners Book Discussion group meets on the fourth Thursday of the month at 6 PM.

 

Used Book Sales  

Book sales are held periodically throughout the year as a fundraiser.   Help is especially needed at book sales.

 

Fundraisers  

Other various types of fundraisers are held such as the Deppen Pie Sale, sub sales, raffles, etc.                       

 

Decorating  

The Friends supply flowers and holiday decorations for the Library.

 

Programs and Lectures  

The Friends sponsor programs of interest to the public on a wide variety of topics from local history to altered books, as well as author talks and book signings.

Sustaining Friend - $75

Generous Friend - $100 or more
