Schuylkill County Firefighting Book-signing 

 

Michael R. Glore and Michael J. Kitsock are veteran Schuylkill County firefighters and the authors of the new book Schuylkill County Firefighting in the Images of America Series. Glore is a career firefighter with the Reading Fire Department and a member of the Schuylkill Historical Fire Society, Pennsylvania National Fire Museum, and Phoenix Fire Company No. 2 of Pottsville. Kitsock is a fire instructor and serves as president of the Schuylkill Historical Fire Society and is a member of the Seltzer Hose Company and Pennsylvania National Fire Museum.

They will be at the Library for a book signing on Wednesday, August 25th at 6:30.


Used Book Sale

The next Friends of the Library Used Book Sale will be on November 13th from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Pottsville Library.

                                                                                             


Hooks and Books Knitting Group      

The next meeting is August 21st at 12:30.                             

The knitting circle will help you get started or help you brush up on your knitting skills.  They meet at the Pottsville Library on the third Saturday of each month from 12:30 to 2 o’clock.  The group is hoping to find more projects they can become involved with to help others.  If you have any thoughts or ideas for other worthwhile projects, let us know.  For more information contact Sandi Murton at 622-8880 or send us an email at potpublib@pottsvillelibrary.org.

 


Pottsville Open Writers

Calling all budding writers!  Join POW on the second Saturday of the month from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Pottsville Library.  This group gets together monthly to discuss their work and to share new ideas.  Writers of all ages and interests are welcome to join.  


Pottsville Page Turners Book Discussion                   

The Pottsville Page Turners will meet on throughout the summer on the fourth Thursday of each month.  The next meeting is on June 24th at 6 PM.  The book to be discussed is Gentlemen and Players by Joanne Harris. New members are welcome.  For more information, call the Library at 622-8880.


 

Join the Friends of the Library              

The Mission of the Friends of the Pottsville Free Public Library is to build an organization that will seek to guarantee quality Library services for the Pottsville area community and the continual support of the Pottsville Free Public Library.

The purpose of the Friends is to maintain an association interested in the Pottsville Free Public Library, its policies, procedures and programs; to promote the uses and enjoyment of the Library; to focus positive public attention on the Library and its services; to build and maintain a source of supplemental funding for the Library and its programs; and to take an active part in supporting the programs and staff of the Library.

The Pottsville Page Turners

The Pottsville Page Turners Book Discussion group meets on the third Thursday of the month at 6 PM.

Used Book Sales

Book sales are held periodically throughout the year as a fundraiser.

Fundraisers

Other various types of fundraisers are held such as the Deppen Pie Sale, sub sales, raffles, etc.                       

Decorating

The Friends supply flowers and holiday decorations for the Library.

Programs and Lectures

The Friends sponsor programs of interest to the public on a wide variety of topics from local history to altered books, as well as author talks and book signings.

Sub Ticket Sale

The Friends of the Library are continuing to sell sub tickets for Charlie's Subs.  The cost of a

ticket is $3.00,  and a ticket is good for a regular, ham, or turkey sub.  They can be purchased

at the front desk of the Library anytime.
