The Children's Department hosts Story time for toddlers through school-age children. We also sponsor Winter & Summer Reading Clubs and Special Programs.

         Story Time

Come help us celebrate children and books as we read stories, sing songs, watch movies, act out rhymes and do fun crafts with a different theme each week!

Registration is held in October for the Fall program and January for the Spring. We offer preschool story times for 3-5 year olds and a Family Night for all ages. Lap Time for Toddlers is available for children aged 12-36 months! Highlights of the story time program are our Halloween and Christmas parties. Registration required.

       Summer Reading Club

The Pottsville Free Public Library participates in The Pennsylvania State-wide Summer Reading program each summer from June to August. Join us for fun themed programs, special guests and prizes! The Summer Reading program is for toddlers through eighth-graders.

The 2008  Summer Reading Club will be  "Catch the Reading Bug @ the Pottsville Library". Check here for more information as summer gets closer.

Winter Reading Club

Chase away the winter blues with our Winter Reading Club. Just pick up a form and keep track of all the library books you read from January through April. When you turn in your book list you'll be entered in a drawing to win a prize! Click on News and Activities for more details.

"Family Place - Parent/Child Workshops"

Family Place  is a five-week course held on selected Thursdays at 11 a.m. aimed at Parents/Caregivers of 1-2 year old children. The program encourages family-togetherness and stresses the importance of play to a child's development. Children are able to play with a room full of age-appropriate toys which stimulate motor skills and encourage socialization with other children. Parents are given access to community resources who can answer questions regarding behavior problems, nutrition and various other parenting concerns. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Family Place will begin June 2008. Please call for more information.

Computer Instruction

Need a computer to finish your homework or just feel like surfing the net? Then come to the library! We have 8 computers available for use in the Children's Department and the Children's Librarians are happy to provide computer instruction. Computers may be used for one hour. Time can be extended if there is no one else waiting for a turn. Preschool children need to have an adult or older sibling with them to use a computer.
