What We Offer
The Children's Department hosts a variety of programs for toddlers through teens.
Early Literacy Programs
Come help us celebrate children and books as we read stories, sing songs, watch movies, act out rhymes and do fun crafts with a different theme each week!
We offer storytimes for 3-5 year olds Mondays at 10:30am. Laptime for children ages 18 months-3 years is offered Wednesdays at 10:30am. Siblings are welcome at both programs. Please Register.
Come make different Lego creations. Children under seven need to be with a caregiver; donations are welcome. Please Register.
Teen Advisory Board
1st & 3rd Tuesday of the month. Call for time.
Join us and have a say in what books, CDs, and movies we provide at the library as well as special activities. Please Register.
Teen Writers Club
2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month. Call for time.
Share a 1-3 page story you've written (fan fiction or any other genre) based on a given theme. Please Register.
"Family Place Parent/Child Workshops"
Family Place is a five-week workshop held in the fall and aimed at parents/caregivers of children ages 1-3. The program encourages family-togetherness and stresses the importance of play to a child's development. Children are able to play with a room full of age-appropriate toys which stimulate motor skills and encourage socialization with other children. Parents are given access to community resources who can answer questions regarding behavior problems, nutrition and various other parenting concerns. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Please call for more information.
Need a computer to finish your homework or just feel like surfing the web? Then come to the library! We have 8 computers available for use in the Children's Department and the Children's Librarian is happy to provide computer assistance. Computers may be used for one hour. Time can be extended if there is no one else waiting for a turn. Preschool children need to have an adult or caregiver with them to use a computer.
Class Visits to the Library
The Children's Department at the Pottsville Free Public Library welcomes class visits. We host programs for local daycares, schools, girl and cub scout troops and after school programs. If getting your group to the library is a problem, call us and maybe we can come to you! Just contact the Children's Department at 622-8880 to arrange a visit.
Are you a parent home schooling your child? Don't forget the Pottsville Library is here to help!
